Frequently Asked Questions

Is a prescription required for blood tests?

Yes, except for urine-sample pregnancy tests, and toxicological profiles paid for by the patient.

Why do I need a prescription if I’m paying for the tests?

Article 136 of AN ACT RESPECTING MEDICAL LABORATORIES, ORGAN AND TISSUE CONSERVATION AND THE DISPOSAL OF HUMAN BODIES stipulates that any work done in a private medical laboratory can only be performed pursuant to a prescription signed by a duly authorized professional.

Can a doctor at Biron give me a prescription?

Biron does not employ doctors. You must go to a medical clinic and see a doctor to obtain a prescription.

Will my insurance cover any related fees?

The fees for our tests are reimbursed by most group health insurance plans. Check your insurance policy, because each one is unique.

How much do the various tests at Biron cost?

Fees for each test vary. We need to know the tests that your doctor has requested on your prescription in order to advise you what your total cost will be.

How long will it take to get my results?

Test results are forwarded directly to your doctor within 24 to 48 hours, depending on the type of test. Certain tests may require more than 48 hours. You will be told when to expect your results when you make your appointment.

Can I get my results over the phone?

Only your doctor has the expertise to interpret the results accurately. Only the following results can be given over the phone: PT/INR, PTT, blood type, pregnancy test, mono test, strep test, urine culture, and throat culture. However, it is possible to obtain a copy of your test results by secure e-mail. Request this option when you make your appointment.

Can I get an appointment quickly?

Same-day appointments are possible, depending on where you would like to have your tests done. You can usually make an appointment within 24 and 48 hours according to the locations.

For information or to make an appointment, should I call the location nearest to me directly?

No, there is a central number to contact us. All calls are directed to our customer service center at our head office in Brossard. We can arrange an appointment for you at any of our locations across Quebec.
